What is Hazwoper Certification?

HAZWOPER is an OSHA standard for employers and workers who deal with hazardous waste and emergency response to hazardous substance releases. The standard includes specific training requirements based on a worker's role, which typically involve an initial 40-hour or 24-hour course followed by an annual 8-hour refresher course. The 40-hour course is for workers with significant involvement in hazardous operations, while the 24-hour course is for workers with occasional, supervised site access.
HAZWOPER training levels
- 40-Hour: For workers who are directly involved in handling, cleaning, or removing hazardous substances at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
- 24-Hour: For workers who have occasional, supervised site access but do not participate in actual clean-up operations.
- 8-Hour Annual Refresher: Required for all workers who have completed the 40-hour or 24-hour initial training to keep their knowledge and skills up to date.
